Dear Colleagues and Researchers,

The Department of Physics, Nirmalagiri College, which has a small but active materials research group, is organizing an International Conference on Advanced Materials ( ICAM 2019) on 12th, 13th and 14th June 2019. The Conference aims to bring together researchers, scientists, academicians and industrialists from all over the world on a common platform to discuss and showcase recent advances in Materials Research, including but not limited to, synthesis of nanomaterials and their applications, materials for biological, energy, optical and electromagnetic applications, functional materials, engineering materials, composite materials, magnetic materials and related topics. The conference will provide an excellent platform for sharing your latest research with scientists from all over the world and for networking with industries to develop industry - academia collaborations. ICAM 2019, which will be a forum for presentation and discussion of the most recent advances in all fields of materials science research and nanomaterials, is open to scientists and researchers belonging to different disciplines: engineering, physics, mathematics, material science, chemistry, biology and others, who are interested in the latest developments in advanced materials and nanomaterials research.

The 3-day event will include plenary lectures, invited and contributed talks and poster sessions, organized in different thematic sessions and coordinated by appointed chairs, who are experts in their fields. Prospective authors are requested to submit extended abstracts of length one page each through the abstract submission link in the conference website, which is currently available. The abstracts will be peer reviewed based on the relevance and the originality of their works. The authors of accepted papers will be invited to present their research work at the Conference by oral or poster presentations. All contributors of presented papers are invited to submit full papers for possible publication in the peer reviewed journal Emergent Materials’, published by Springer and American Institute of Physics(AIP) Conference proceedings.

The International Conference on Advanced Materials (ICAM2019), aims to bring together more than 1000 participants from Academic Institutions, Research Laboratories and industries from all over the world to discuss and disseminate the latest exciting developments related to but not limited to:

Full papers of all accepted abstracts will be peer reviewed and all accepted papers will be published in the journal 'Emergent Materials', published by Springer and American Institute of Physics(AIP) Conference proceedings.  So the conference provides an excellent opportunity to show case your work and also enable networking between groups and individuals from different countries.

Technological development in the 21st century has become synonymous with advances in materials research. Advanced materials with exotic properties are now being used in numerous engineering and technological applications. Efficient renewable energy sources and energy storage systems, electronics and communication devices, lighter and better alloys, drug delivery systems, magnets with superior properties are all a result of the advances in materials research. Hundreds of research groups all over the world are involved in synthesizing and characterizing novel materials for applications. Numerous industries are making use of these discoveries for novel applications. It has become almost impossible for researchers to keep track of the huge volume of research output in this field. Collaborative research involving different research groups linked to industries directed at achieving specific results has become the need of the hour. ICAM 2019 aims to provide a common platform to network with researchers and technologists from different parts of the world and to present and publish original and novel results.

ICAM 2019


Online submission of abstracts has been opened on 15th December 2018. All abstracts must be in English and prospective participants can submit one page abstracts using the Abstract Template downloaded from the Conference website. Only camera ready abstracts prepared in the template downloaded from the website will be considered for publication in the Conference Abstracts Book with ISBN number after peer review. Information regarding the acceptance of abstract and mode of presentation (Invited, Oral, Poster), will be intimated to the corresponding author through e-mail on or before 5th March 2019. Abstracts submitted in any other format will be summarily rejected.

It may please be noted that the registration process has to be completed before submission of abstracts. Payment of registration fee is not mandatory for registration and submission of abstracts. However, the registration fee has to be paid before submission of full paper (1, May 2019 for AIP Conference Proceedings and 12, June 2019 for Emergent Materials).

Uploading Abstracts

1. Login to the web site after registration using username (email) and password.
2. In the home page, click on the top right blue button labelled by the name of the user.
3. From the dropdown menu select the option 'Profile' to update the user profile.
4. After updating the user profile, select the option 'Upload Abstract' from the same dropdown menu.

ICAM 2019 Conference Proceedings

Full length papers of abstracts accepted and published in the Conference book of abstracts, will be considered for publication in the journal "Emergent Materials"(published by Springer) or in a special volume of AIP Conference Proceedings. Invited talks as well as oral and poster presentations can be included in the conference proceedings. The templates and links for preparing and submitting full papers is available in your personal page.

All manuscripts will be peer reviewed according to standard international procedures before being accepted for publication in the conference proceedings.

All delegates wishing to attend the Conference have to register through the link provided in the conference website. The registration fee can be paid any time before the last date for submission of the full paper. The Conference registration fee covers all technical sessions, Conference kit, book of abstract, lunch, and tea on conference days, and the conferencebanquet dinner. Limited financial assistance in the form of TA/DA or reduced registration fees may be provided to students and research scholars who avail no scholarship. Early bird registrations at a reduced rate can be made until March 20th 2019.

Reaching Nirmalagiri College

Nirmalagiri College is situated on the Thalassery – Mysore interstate highway, at a distance of 17 km from Thalassery and 3 km from Kuthuparamba. The nearest railway station is Thalassery. For people coming from North (via Konkan), the nearest railway station is Kannur, which is about 30 km from the college. The Kannur International Airport is just 15 km away. Other nearest airports are Kozhikode in the south (~120 km) and Mangalore on the north (~180 km). The College can be reached from Bangalore by bus (distance ~310km, 7 hours). There are a number of night buses from Bangalore, which reach Nirmalagiri early in the morning.

VISA for Foreign Delegates

All foreign nationals entering India are required to possess a valid international travel document in the form of a national passport with a valid visa which can be obtained from an Indian Mission abroad. e-Visa facility is available for nationals of many countries. More information regarding visa for travel to India can be obtained from https://indianvisaonline.gov.in/visa. An invitation letter from ICAM 2019 for processing Conference VISA will be furnished on receiving a request sent to email id icam2019ngc@gmail.com for the same. Invitation letter will be issued only after your registration and payment have been completed. A Letter of Invitation is a proof that your paper submission and registration application are accepted by the conference committee. It will be stated in English and may help with your visa application. However, it does not guarantee you a visa.

Explore North Kerala

Kerala, popularly known as God’s Own Country is one of the most popular tourist destinations in India. Kerala is famous for its pleasant climate, green Valleys, beautiful beaches, verdant mountains and mesmerizing backwaters. The month of June, when the monsoon rains begin, is the best time to enjoy the enchanting beauty of the rain drenched hills and beaches of Kerala. The best places to visit during monsoon in Kerala are the hill stations: Wayanad, Wagamon, Thekkady, Ranipuram; Beaches: Bekal Fort and beach, Kovalam beach, Kappad beach etc ; and the backwaters: Alappuzha, Kumarakom, Valiyaparambu and others. Nirmalagiri College is situated in the Northern Kerala which is famous for beautiful beaches, mountains and forts of historical importance.

It is the green paradise of Kerala situated in the mountains of the Western Ghats and just a two hour drive from the conference venue. Wayanad is located in the north- east corner of Kerala and shares borders with the neighbouring states of Karnataka and Tamil Nadu. It has a mixed bag of tourist spots which includes scenic lakes and waterfalls, mist – capped mountains, green meadows, pilgrim centers and pre- historic rock shelters.

It is the longest drive in beach in Asia. Located at a distance of 20 km from the Conference Venue, it gives a panoramic view of the Arabian Sea ringed with coconut trees and provides a breathtakingly beautiful driving experience. About 200m south of the beach, there is a private island called Dharmadam Island. It is possible to walk to the island during the time of low tides.

Pythal Mala and Palakkayam Thattu are two tourist attractions situated at a height of 4,500 ft above sea level and is located at a distance of about 50 km from the Conference venue. These places are known for their lush greenery and enchanting natural beauty. The region is rich in flora and fauna and is a paradise for trekkers. It is the haven of a variety of birds, butterflies and rare plants.

It is largest and best preserved forts in Kerala spread over 40 acres bordered by a magnificent beach. It was built in the 17th century and is a place of historical importance. It offers an exotic view of the Arabian Sea from its tall observation towers. Due to its historical importance, the fort is under the direct control of the Archaeological Survey of India. The fort is about 110 km from the Conference Venue.

Valiyaparamba Backwaters

The most popular backwater stretches of North Kerala is the Valiyaparamba backwaters, which is located close to the popular Bekal Fort area. The backwaters is fed by four separate rivers and the entire region is famous for a cluster of picturesque little islands.Day long cruise on a houseboat, with a picnic lunch, provide a memorable experience for the visitors. The starting point of the cruise is located at a distance of about 80 km from the Conference venue.

About Us

Kerala, the Indian state with the highest human development index, comparable to that of any European high index country, is the state with the highest literacy rate in India. The state, with the highest sex ratio, and a large religious minority population, is known for its tolerance towards the diversity of the country and is secular to the word.

Nirmalagiri College, established in the year 1964 to cater to the educational needs of the local population and the migrant Christian community in the north Malabar region of the state of Kerala in India, is now widely recognized as one of the most reputed centers of higher education in Kerala. The college is accredited by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with A grade and is ranked 87th in all India ranking by the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF). The College, from its humble beginnings in 1964, today hosts 11 undergraduate and 3 postgraduate courses.

The Conference venue, situated in the sprawling 40 acre campus of the College, in the foothills of the scenic Western Ghats and a 30 minute drive from the Arabian Sea, is easily accessible by air, road and rail. The Kannur International Airport is just 15 km away. The nearest railway station is Thalassery, at a distance of 17km.

The Department of Physics, which is hosting ICAM 2019, is the torchbearer of the College, inspiring all other departments in their quest for excellence. The Department, which is funded by the DST FIST and UGC Innovative programs, offers both undergraduate and postgraduate courses in Physics, in addition to a PG Diploma in Nanotechnology and is also a recognized Research Center of the Kannur University, to which the College is affiliated. The Department has a well equipped research lab dedicated to nanomaterials research, which is used by research scholars and postgraduate students from all over South India. The faculty members of the Department are actively engaged in Materials research and have published more than 75 papers in reputed international journals.
